JS asks the Government for greater control of fixed-term contracts by the ACT

The deputies of the Socialist Youth (JS) delivered this Monday in parliament a draft resolution to recommend to the Government that the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) increase inspection actions in fixed-term contracts.

With this initiative, whose first subscriber is the general secretary of JS, Miguel Costa Matos, it is intended, in the first place, “comply with the modifications to the Labor Code approved in 2019, to help young people get out of precarious situations.”

These JS deputies point out that the modifications to the Labor Code approved in 2019 reduced the maximum duration of fixed-term contracts from three to two years, “including renewals, establishing that the total duration of the renewals cannot exceed that of the initial contract period. , also eliminating the possibility of hiring fixed-term workers in search of their first job”.

In this context, the young MEPs The Socialists “recommend to the Government a greater inspection of contracts”o and compliance with the rules for reconciling professional activity with family and personal life, namely, the payment of overtime and respect for rest periods”.

The promotion of equality and non-discrimination based on sex, ensuring the application of the principle of equal pay for work of equal or equal value”, is another of the objectives of the signatories of this resolution.

The deputies of the JS also defend that the “generational growth of job insecurity deserves special concern due to the negative impact that the segmentation of the labor market has not only on a set of social development indicators, but also on innovation and economic growth. ”.

In a highly segmented labor market, young people with precarious ties were the ones who suffered the most from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, they refer.

In addition to the deputies of the JS, the draft resolution was signed by the vice president of the socialist caucus, Francisco César, and the leader of the PS/Porto, Tiago Barbosa Ribeiro.
