Representative specified. Elaine Luria says Donald Trump is an internal enemy at the January 6 hearing

When Representative Elaine Luria (D-VA) made her final statement Thursday night at the committee’s eighth hearing on Jan. 6, she implied that former President Donald Trump is an internal enemy:

For the first time, I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against internal and external enemies. When I entered the U.S. Naval Academy at the age of 17, I spent twenty years on ships at sea defending our country from known and identifiable foreign enemies trying to harm us.

I never thought that this enemy would come from within. I’m not too far from the view of Abraham Lincoln, who said 23 years before the Civil War, “If destruction is our destiny, we must be its own authors and accomplices.” Donald Trump writes, and we humans must not let Donald Trump be the last for ourselves and our future generations.

His latest statement came after nearly two and a half hours of live and video testimonies from various White House staffers who said they thought Trump should make a statement to his supporters at the Capitol on January 6 after some violence.

Committee members argued throughout the trial that Trump did nothing when the violence occurred, but during the second half of the trial, they showed the video message Trump urged his supporters to return home in peace.

But Luria said he only did so “after it became clear that the attempt to forcibly block or delay the counting of election results had not been successful” and complained that he had “kindly” told his supporters to go home.

“This is not the message of condemnation and mere punishment of lawbreakers that we expect from a president whose oath and duty is to ensure the faithful implementation of the law. But instead, this is his latest version of “stop and wait,” he said.
