Los Angeles timesMexico City, a longtime supporter of amnesty for illegal immigrants in the United States, is sounding the alarm over the mass exodus in Mexico City.

Layout is drastically different Los Angeles timesFraming articles on mass immigration in the US. For example, in a 2018 editorial, newspaper editors criticized former President Trump for wanting to cut universal immigration.

The editors wrote:

There are 326 million people in the United States, and 43.7 million, or 13.5%, were born in other countries (almost a quarter live here without permission). As noted in a 2015 report by the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, “Integration is a two-way process: It happens both because immigrants change after they arrive, and because Native Americans change in response to immigration.” Generations of Americans, far from their Irish roots, lived in St. Patrick and people from Jamaica will be less American if they listen to reggae. It’s a fact that Trump and his choir are trying to portray in a different way. We have always had this mentality in this country, the fear of the new and the unusual. This is a place where even the son of an immigrant maid could be president. [Emphasis added]

The United States has the world’s largest foreign-born population, with over 46 million illegal and legal immigrants.

Major cities such as Los Angeles, California have about five million foreign-born residents who make up 35 percent of the city’s population. Similarly, about 40 percent of New York City’s population is foreign national. By contrast, Mexico City has only 1.6 million American citizens—just 18 percent of the city’s total population.
