Brazil’s ambassador to Ukraine, Norton de Andrade Mello Rapesta, will return to kyiv, almost five months after leaving the Ukrainian capital due to the Russian invasion, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced.

Rapesta and the vast majority of Brazilian diplomats left kyiv in early March, a week after the start of Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine, although the embassy remained open.
The Brazilian diplomatic team then moved to Lviv, a city about 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian capital, near the border with Poland, where it created a consular service post to help Brazilians leaving Ukraine.
Three other posts were created in the cities of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, and Kosice, Slovakia, and they were only closed after all Brazilians who expressed a desire to leave Ukraine had done so.
