Five districts under yellow warning until Friday due to heat

The number of districts on the mainland has increased to five from Wednesday to Friday under yellow warning due to the forecast of heat, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The IPMA forecasts partly cloudy or clear skies on the continent on Wednesday, stronger winds on the coastal strip in the afternoon and a slight drop in maximum temperatures on the northern and central coasts.

Minimum temperatures will range between 14ºC (in Braga and Viana do Castelo) and 24ºC (in Faro) and maximum temperatures between 23ºC (in Leiria and Aveiro) and 39ºC (in Évora and Beja).

The districts of Évora, Beja, Portalegre, Setúbal and Castelo Branco will be under yellow alert between midnight on Wednesday and 6 pm on Friday due to persistently high maximum temperatures.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
