The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, said this Saturday that he had already read the decree law that approves the Statute of the National Health Service (SNS) that he received on Friday, hoping to present “some observations” to the document. .
“I arrived yesterday [sexta-feira] at the beginning of the night [o decreto-lei]I read it tomorrow [domingo] I continue to analyze it and my idea is that the decision be made and that in principle it should be promulgated on Monday, probably with some observations of what I would think would be better or not, but I am studying”, said the head of state.
Questioned by journalists upon his arrival at the Marvão International Music Festival (FIMM), in the Portalegre district, about the observations he could make to the decree-law, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa declined to reveal these details, only highlighting that if it is a document “huge” and “important”.
“It is enormous, because it is about the National Health System, the groups of health centers, the hospital structure, practically everything that is considered part of the National Health System as a whole,” he said.
The decree law arrived on Friday at the Presidency of the Republic “after the closing hours of services, but it is being analyzed so that, as the President of the Republic had announced, it can be decided quickly,” a Palace source said on Saturday. from Belém to Lusa.
On July 7, the Council of Ministers approved the decree-law that approves the Statute of the National Health Service (SNS), in development of the legal regime established by the Basic Health Law.
According to the statement of this meeting of the Council of Ministers, “the new statute, which was in public consultation between October and November 2021, updates the definition of SNS, the list of its establishments and services, the rights and duties of its beneficiaries, its territorial and functional organization, the rules of its human and economic resources and the participation of citizens, users, family members, municipalities and other sectors in the operation of the SNS”.
This decree “also approves the legal regime of the Groups of Health Centers and the statutes of the hospital units of the SNS”.
On Friday, in Cascais, the head of state said that he hoped that the decree-law on the SNS would arrive “quickly for promulgation by the President of the Republic”.
