The president of the Liberal Initiative (IL), João Cotrim de Figueiredo, accused the PS this Friday of turning Portugal into a “mediocre and incapable country”, with an “authoritarian and arrogant” majority vision.
It is clear that the PS does not know how to make the country grow, it does not know how to manage public affairs and it is transforming Portugal into a mediocre and incapable country”, said the IL leader in Portimão, Algarve.
During the speech at the party at the end of August, which took place in Praia da Rocha, João Cotrim de Figueiredo considered that the PS “no longer means Socialist Party, but socialist arrogance, which is now seen in the most varied examples.”
For the leader of IL, this “socialist arrogance” is seen “in parliament, forcing decisions, preventing hearings or affirming the majority it has, in the conduct of the President of the Assembly of the Republic and in the implausible and unacceptable statements of the Minister of Agriculture”.
As ministerial orders are not acceptable, in this case intimidating prime ministers in relation to private energy companies, just because they can”, he pointed out.
According to Cotrim de Figueiredo, “all this proves that the PS is having an absolute majority, an absolutely authoritarian and arrogant vision.”

João Cotrim de Figueiredo assured that I want to start undoing prejudices that the IL “is a party of the rich, that wants to put an end to the State and that only talks about the economy”, recalling the dozens of parliamentary proposals, from health to education, passing through sports.
During the intervention, the president of IL pointed to the need for “a serious reform of thewith the valorization of the Public Administration, reforms that increase everything that is freedom of choice in public services, such as health, education, that increase economic freedom and a much lighter, simplified and tax-free tax system.
João Cotrim de Figueiredo also pointed to problems in teaching, predicting that in the next school year “there may be about 100,000 students without a full faculty.”
“These are the same 100,000 students who had learning delays who will continue to see their future mortgaged and with them, the future of the country,” he said.
Assuming education as a concern of IL, the leader announced that the parliamentary sessions of September 19 and 20 will be devoted to educationunder the motto “Grow in Portugal”.
In his speech in Portimão, the Liberal leader also said that “it is time to end the domination of the central bloc and the small arrangements between PS and PSD, where alternate governments have led Portugal into serious problems, with the stagnation of the country” . .
IL will fight to break this hegemony and presents itself as a true alternative for Portugal”, he concluded.
