The current president of the PS district federation of Viana do Castelo, Miguel Alves, announced on Tuesday his re-election for one last term in the elections of that party body, scheduled for November 4.
“I am running with the work done and with the same spirit of service to Alto Minho and the Socialist Party that has always guided me in these roles,” the socialist, who also chairs a last municipal legislature in Caminha municipality.
For Miguel Alves, who is also president of the Northern Regional Council [órgão consultivo da Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Norte (CCDR-N)]”PS has gone an extraordinary way to strengthen its position and ideas in the district.”
Currently, the PS leads the majority of the Municipal Chambers, has three exceptional deputies who preside or belong to the most relevant commissions of the Assembly of the Republic and has three Alto Minho as State Secretaries of Government”.
The socialist leader added that “the PS of the district of Viana do Castelo is a national benchmark, it has taken a leap in quality and prestige in recent years, it is distinguished by moments of political ‘rentrée’, parliamentary sessions, and the constant presence of our leaders and the admiration they have for the work of our mayors”.
“The voice of the PS Alto Minho is heard and respected throughout the country and this is due to the quality of the work of the structures, the mayors and the militancy. I am running to do more and make it even better. I am more motivated than ever to be able to continue with the work carried out”, said Miguel Alves, who has functions in the Viana do Castelo District Civil Protection Commission, in the Board of Directors of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities and in the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.
The 46-year-old socialist advanced to have “the support of all the socialist structuresgathering the support of all the mayors of the PS, the 10 mayors of the municipality and the presidents of the Socialist Youth and Socialist Women of the district of Viana do Castelo.
The leader of the District Federation of the PS of Viana do Castelo for more than six years, Miguel Alves, said that he assumed the re-election at the meeting of the political commission of the federation, held on August 5.
The meeting set the dates for the elections of the municipalities, which will be held on October 7, and of the District Federation, for November 4. The Federative Congress was scheduled for November 19, in Melgaço.
