Tennis Australia has announced that Nick Kyrgios will miss the first round of the Davis Cup scheduled for September next year, putting an end to rumors of his return to the national team.

“It was great to have Nick in the squad, but unfortunately he was not available for this match,” said Australia captain Lleyton Hewitt.

Kyrgios, 27, has not competed in a Davis Cup competition since 2019, but his strong performance since the Wimbledon final against Djokovic in July and his second-place finish have secured him a place in the national team.

Australians Alex de Minaur and Thanasi Kokinakis will lead the Australian team, which also includes Matt Ebden and Max Purcell in doubles.

Australia will play in Hamburg from 13 to 18 September in Group C, which also includes Germany, France and Belgium.

Two matches will be played in singles and one in doubles. The first and second places in four groups will qualify for the final round, which will be held in Malaga, Spain, from 22 to 27 November.
