The Luso-Mozambican AV Summit starts this Thursday in Maputo with the presence of the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, with the aim of deepening bilateral relations and celebrating various cooperation agreements.
Antonio Costa will be two days in the Mozambican capital, and the visit begins with a tribute ceremony at the Monument to the Heroes of Mozambique, where a floral offering will be placed.
The Prime Minister then meets with the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, after which bilateral agreements signed in the framework of the summit.
António Costa arrived in Maputo a few minutes after midnight local time.
In the afternoon, António Costa addresses the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, where he will be received by the speaker of parliament, Hope Bias. Later, at the Portuguese Cultural Center, she will give a speech and visit the joint exhibition by Gonçalo Mabunda and Francisco Vidal, “O apetrechar do tempo”.
In this event, which will also include the intervention of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Mozambique, Edelvina Materula, the projects subsidized by the PROCULTURA program in that country will be presented.
The first day of the head of government in Maputo ends with a dinner offered by the President of the Republic of Mozambiqueat the Ponta Vermelha Palace.

In statements to the Lusa agency about this summit, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation indicated that Several cooperation agreements were signed in the areas of agriculture, education, tourism and at the technical-police level.
According to information passed on to journalists by the prime minister’s office, three protocols were signed on Wednesday, one of them technical collaboration with a view to strengthening the capacity of the General Finance Inspectorate of Mozambique by 2026 and another for cooperation between ASAE and the National Institute of Fisheries Inspection of Mozambique.
In the area of health, it was signed a memorandum between the Central Hospital of Maputo and the Hospital and University Center of Coimbra “for the implementation of telemedicine modalities“.
According to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the agreements signed between the two countries are part of the Strategic Cooperation Program —signed in November 2021, with a duration of five years— and that, after this meeting, “will be valued” and “developed” by the two governments.
On the sidelines of the V Luso-Mozambican Summit, the Government is also preparing to close an agreement called the “Lusophone Pact”, which implies guarantees in the order of €400 million for economic cooperation and investments in Portuguese-speaking African countries (STICK).

On this official visit, the Prime Minister is accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Joao Gomes Cravinhoby the Minister of National Defense, Helena Carreras and by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Maria do Céu Antunes.
The Portuguese Government delegation includes the Secretaries of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco Andreof tax affairs, Antonio Mendonca Mendesand the economy, Joao Neves.
The Prime Minister’s trip to Mozambique for this bilateral summit was initially scheduled for July 11 and 12, but António Costa decided to postpone the visit due to the increased risk of fire in Portugal at that time.
On Saturday, in Luanda, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, anticipated that the Luso-Mozambican Summit will be a “success” in various aspects of cooperation between the two countries, which will be discussed “not only” in the military but also economic, social and political.
