Rui Paulo Sousa, deputy for Chega, acknowledges that the internal convulsions that are shaking the party cause reputational damage. Even so, the president of the Chega Ethics Committee reduces the contestants to a group of half a dozen people, “spread across some district or municipal structures.” “No more than that,” he assures.
In an interview with Observador, on the “Vichyssoise” program, on the eve of a National Council that will vote on a motion of confidence for the presidency of André Ventura, Rui Paulo Sousa trusts in a significant vote and regrets that internal opponents, with Nuno Afonso at the head, miss the call. “He knows he’s going to lose and I don’t think he wants to be embarrassed,” he jokes.
The deputy also devalues the entire episode around Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro, denies that there have been attacks between deputies from Chega and assures that there is a climate of enormous unity in the party leadership.
