PSD questions the Government on the restructuring plan for defense industries

The PSD parliamentary group questioned the Minister of Defense, Helena Carreiras, about the situation in which the plan for the restructuring of defense industriesallegedly handed over to the ministry in February 2021.

Social Democratic deputies who are members of the Parliamentary Defense Commission question Helena Carreiras, in a regulatory question delivered this Friday to Parliament, if the document prepared by the current Secretary of State for Defense, Marco Ferreira — at the time when the chairman of the board of directors of IdD — Portugal Defense, SA, the holding company for state defense companies — was or was not “validated by guardianship” and whether the minister is “in a position to provide it” to the parliament

The PSD also wants to know “what steps have been taken since the plan was received”, noting that Marco Ferreira informed Parliament in June 2020 that he would “prepare and present a plan for the restructuring of defense industries” and that, in November 2021, revealed that “he had been detained since February 2021”, according to the text of the question.

It happens that, in September 2022, Parliament is still unaware of the plan, or of any progress in relation to this process”, underline the “orange” deputies that make up the commission.

The PSD also highlights in the text sent to Helena Carreiras the country’s need “relaunch the national defense industrycompeting with the big companies [internacionais] operating in this sector.

In a second normative question, the PSD also urges the Minister of Defense to clarify what is the 25 museums, national and monuments under state jurisdictionprotected by the protocols announced by the ministry of Helena Carreiras at the beginning of September, which allow free entry to all ex-combatants, as well as widows or widowers, within the framework of the Ex-Combatants Statute approved in August 2020.
