Brazil wins first point against Portugal in Davis Cup with victory in doubles

Rafael Matos and Felipe Meligeni defeated the Portuguese duo made up of Francisco Cabral and Nuno Borges in three sets on Saturday, earning the first point for Brazil in the Davis Cup tennis World Cup qualifying round.

At the Viana do Castelo Cultural Center, the Brazilian duo beat today’s best Portuguese duo 6-3, 0-6, 6-3, in one hour and 24 minutes, and prevented the locals from winning the third and decisive point to advance to the 2023 Davis Cup Tennis Finals qualifying play-off.

With Portugal leading the unprecedented tie between the two teams 2-1, João Sousa will seek, against Thiago Monteiro, to seal the Portuguese victory in the match between the number ones from each country.
