The decree-law that approves the new executive direction of the National Health Service was published this Friday in the Diário da República.
The government document is published hours before the Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarro, meets with Dr. Fernando Araújo, former Undersecretary of State for Health and current president of the São João Hospital Center, in Porto, a name that has been designated to fill the position of newly created executive director of the SNS.
The decree-law includes one of the regulations determined in the Statute of the National Health Service, a document approved in August of this year still with Marta Temido in the Ministry of Health: the creation of a maximum executive body to coordinate all the activity of the SNS . .
According to the preamble to the decree-law, the missions of the new executive directorate of the SNS are to “coordinate the healthcare response of the SNS health units, ensuring their functioning as a network, the continuous improvement of access to health care, the participation of users and the alignment of clinical and health governance”.
