The PCP asked the Government on Tuesday if it is aware of the delays in the payment of salaries and vacations to the employees of Misericórdia de Serpa, in the district of Beja, and how it intends to resolve the situation.
The questions consist of a question addressed to the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, delivered to parliament and sent to the Lusa agency.
In the document, the PCP parliamentary group questions that “the Government is aware of the serious situation of disrespect for the rights of the workers of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Serpa (SCMS), specifically in what refers to the lack of payment of salaries and vacations. ”.
“What measures will the Government take to resolve this situation?” is the other question that the communists ask themselves.
According to the PCP, the SCMS “has under its administration the São Paulo Hospital, with its various facilities, two continuing care units, medium and long term, and a residential structure for the elderly — Lar de São Francisco”.
The institution “guarantees the most diverse attention to about 800 users per month, counting on 180 workers for it,” adds the PCP, arguing that “it has been recurrent” that SCMS does not comply “with the payment of wages within the legal term” . ”.
“And, once again, the Santa Casa da Misericordia de Serpa did not pay the salaries of its workers in September, and the respective salary has not been paid, just as the vacation bonus has not been paid since July,” they refer to the document. , accusing the administration of “apologizing” and assigning “responsibility” for these delays to the Alentejo Regional Health Administration (ARSA) or Social Security.
In a joint statement sent this Tuesday to Lusa, the Portuguese Nurses (SEP) and Commerce and Services Workers (CESP) unions revealed that, this Monday, the SCMS workers, meeting in plenary sessions to demanding “payment of back wages,” among other things, decided to hold a demonstration Saturday in Serpa.
Contacted by Lusa, the deputy provider of SCMS, Isabel Estevens, admitted the “great financial restriction” with which the institution is struggling, which is not due to “inertia, much less the lack of proactivity” of the administration.
“These difficulties and situation points have been reported to the employees. We regret the helplessness we feel at this time to be able to respond to the rights of workers, which we did not want to see pinched in any way, ”he continued.
The official acknowledged the existence of delays “of a few days” in the payment of employee salaries “in some months of this year”, because Misericórdia “depends on transfers of funds from the Health Authority to be able, in a timely manner, until the last day of each month, comply with the payment of wages.
“This month of September will have been the most flagrant [em termos de atraso]. ARSA transferred the money on Monday and the salaries have already been processed in our treasury, but since Wednesday is a holiday, only on Thursday should they reach people’s accounts”, he said.
The money, by ARSA, “is always transferred, but the date on which it is transferred, in some months, due to holidays and weekends, is late for the purposes of our processing,” he stressed, refuting, however, that he I was to blame or the fault of this body.
“Once ARS itself has the funds available, it transfers them to us the same day. But it also depends on the date the quantity is available.”
Isabel Estevens also denied the existence of delayed Social Security funds, adding that she had already requested meetings with the Ministry of Health, as well as with the ARS and the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit, which have not yet taken place.
Regarding vacations, the official admitted that the SCMS was able to “pay some employees”, but “there are others who have not yet been paid”, and the institution “does everything possible to pay them”.
