Minister of the Interior: SEF inspectors will transfer “en bloc” to the Judicial Police

The Minister of the Interior, José Luís Carneiro, announced this Friday that the inspectors of the investigation and inspection career of the Aliens and Borders Service (SEF) will be transferred “en bloc” to the Judicial Police (PJ).

As part of the restructuring of the SEF, which is underway, the official revealed, in Évora, that this “en bloc” transition of the investigation and inspection inspectors of that body to the PJ is planned, complying with what they wanted .

“It was what the workers wanted the most, because there is great equivalence between the careers, the SEF investigation and inspection career and the Judicial Police investigators career,” said José Luís Carneiro.

Despite this transition, he warned, “it is necessary to safeguard that there is a certain number of inspectors who guarantee support for air border control, which is in charge of the PSP.”

And that “there will be a group that will support the GNR in regard to the transfer of knowledge in relation to the control of the maritime border and the land border,” he added.

From May until now, he revealed, “more than 300 guards and police have been trained with skills for what is called the first line of air borders and land borders.”

“In the meantime, other courses to reinforce the human body have begun, which will have, let’s say, responsibilities in the control of air, sea and land borders,” said the minister.

However, “that was the guarantee that the workers wanted, they transit en bloc, as I explained to the PJ, although later, let’s say, in service and in support of the control of the air border, the maritime border and the land border.” “, he is stressed.

Speaking to journalists, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the “Maria e António” Space, the renovated room dedicated to assisting victims at the GNR Territorial Command in Évora, the minister also said that he hopes that by the end of the year the regulatory process will create the Portuguese Agency for Migration and Asylum (APMA), which will incorporate administrative staff from the SEF.

At the inauguration of the space for attention to the victims of the GNR in Évora, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, José Luís Carneiro revealed that they already exist in the country, in the Guard Posts and facilities of the PSP, “470 rooms” with identical purposes, to which are added “another 30 spaces”, the result of alliances between the security forces and other entities.

“We are talking about some 500 spaces, which represents 71% of the territorial posts and police stations of the PSP that are already equipped with spaces that guarantee intimacy, privacy” to house those who participate in this violence, “many times” in the company of children, adolescents and young people, stressed the minister.
