CGTP describes as “positive” the meeting with Marcelo who was “sensitive” to the problems presented

The general secretary of the CGTP told Lusa this Wednesday that the first meeting with the President of the Republic was “quite positive”, highlighting that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was “sensitive” to the problems presented by the union center.

“It was a very positive meeting because we were able to raise with the President the fundamental issues that afflict the workers today, that arose from the CGTP congress, and that we do not see overcome with the Government Program. […]that has a path of degradation in relations with the world of work,” said Tiago Oliveira, in statements to Lusa.

The inter-union presented to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa the need to increase salaries, combat precariousness, the deregulation of the working day and public services, which, he said, were “under immense attack.”

On the occasion of World Social Security Day, several dozen people gathered near the building on Avenida da República, asking for a reinforcement of this system and considering it threatened by the Government Program of Luís Montenegro’s executive.

“What is proposed in the Government Program is an attack. When Social Security is put in competition with the private sector, obviously you want to decapitalize Social Security,” he noted.

For the CGTP, “a different policy is urgently needed,” one that responds to the interests of the workers and “not to the interests of half a dozen that belong to big capital, which continues to obtain million-dollar profits.”

Tiago Oliveira also highlighted that Luís Montenegro’s executive aims to increase the results of large companies, through, for example, reducing the tax burden.

“The Lord The president was sensitive to the issues raised, to the problems that the CGTP demonstrated to exist. Now we need to have a different policy for the country, which overcomes the difficulties that workers face,” he pointed out.

Tiago Oliveira added that he had already transmitted these messages at the Social Concertation meeting this Tuesday, now asking for political decisions, although he noted that he believes it is difficult to have these “responses from the PSD-CDS Government.”
