Marcelo meets with Lula on Monday and has lunch with Felipe VI on Sunday

The Portuguese head of state will meet Lula da Silva in Brasilia on Monday, the day after his inauguration as Brazil’s president, and on Sunday he will have lunch with King Felipe VI of Spain.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced these meetings in statements to journalists at a hotel in the Brazilian capital, where he arrived that day to represent the Portuguese State in the inauguration of Lula da Silva as president of Brazil, on Sunday, January 1.

As president-elect of Brazil, Lula da Silva already visited Portugal, between November 18 and 19, after having participated in the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), in Egypt. On that occasion, he was received by the Portuguese Head of State and Prime Minister, António Costa, in Lisbon.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced today that Lula da Silva will return to Portugal as President of Brazil on a state visit and for a summit between Governments of Portugal and Brazil from April 22 to 25.

When he visited Brazil in July of this year and in 2021, the Portuguese president met with Lula da Silva in São Paulo and with other former presidents of Brazil.
