Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke of Trinidad and Tobago was appointed on Sunday by Australian manager MacArthur on a two-year deal, the first experience of his career.

However, the former international is no stranger to Australian football, having played for Sydney in their first league season in 2005-2006 and won the title with them.

Yorke will also coach the A-League All-Star team in a friendly against Barcelona in Sydney on 25 May.

“Playing in the first A-League, I watched the competition and know the demands of football and fans in Australia,” said the 50-year-old.

Yorke won the League, Cup and Champions League with United in 1999, in addition to two other league titles in 2000 and 2001. He also played in England with Aston Villa, who won the League Cup with him in 1996, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham. City and Sunderland before retiring in 2009.

He won the Premier League Player of the Year award in 1999 when he also won the Ballon d’Or for top scorer.
