The sports world’s eyes are on Oklahoma as top golfers compete for the Wannamaker Trophy at Southern Hills Country Club.
Let me stop here.
What could be a more problematic phrase than South Hills Country Club? This is a country club so it is private and probably not gender specific. When I hear the word “South”, I immediately know that Stonewall Jackson and his brutal Confederate band are trying to plunder Washington DC. The Civil War was an uprising roughly equivalent to January 6.ika. So not good. Florida isn’t in the south, is it? Didn’t DeSantis try to kill Mickey Mouse? Tapos Hills. When I hear about the hills, I think of the highlands and they can be a bit of a clan.
Being in a clan is almost as bad as being in a clan. It wasn’t fun to look at who had won in Southern Hills either—it was all white people and a cablina. America’s PGA should pay attention to where they host major events. Maybe look for more peaceful liberal enclaves like Portland, Chicago or Baltimore.
Put aside my false hatred for the venue, let’s take a look at some of the stories of the week and see who wins.
The tiger is back and looks good. Thursday morning, he was in a supergroup that included Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. Expect large groups of idiots to follow these guys. Since you have participated in many golf tournaments with Tiger, you’d better stay away from him as much as possible. If you follow the group you will see about 30 shots throughout the round. It was a total nightmare – lots of people rushing to the ground in the nineties – no thanks. If it rains a little in Tulsa and it’s muddy and wet, these people are literally in hell. Also, Tiger fans aren’t really golf fans because they only know Tiger so he has a weird vibe. It’s best to sit by the hole and watch them walk towards you, or better yet, watch the other band…or better, don’t go anymore.

Sit at home in your air-conditioned cottage and watch every precious shot from your seat. The dirty little secret of championship golf, if you’re really into it, the worst place is the course. People like to go to golf tournaments so they can tell others they are in a golf tournament. No sane person enjoys a golf tournament. My advice is to stay away from this group. Stay away from this tournament. And for God’s sake, stay away from Oklahoma. Also, supergroups tend to be disappointing. While Rosana is a great song, Asya and Toto can be considered.
Jordan Spieth has a good shot at a Grand Slam career. He plays with confidence, and few golfers are more happy to be in the limelight than Spit. A stylish choice to win for a good reason. However, I really don’t like it for reasons I can’t pinpoint. He is good-natured, outspoken, competitive, hardworking, and collecting. Jordan Spieth was an American from the start, and I want him to fail badly. What kind of person is on the Jordan Spit? Not good.
Phil Mickelson will not repeat the PGA title. Withdrew due to controversy over his comments about the proposed Saudi golf league. I don’t remember their comments but they don’t look that bad. Maybe it is too hot in Saudi Arabia??? Phil is the perfect example of a man who is somewhat repulsive and arrogant, but who survives as the object of contempt for our bad media. Since Phil is the protagonist of the people, shouldn’t he be ipso facto more famous for that? I know I love him more. Unfortunately, he does not defend his title. My guess is that Phil will look like Sherman McCoy from The Bonfire of the Vanities… everything will be gone but he will return with a new, stronger spirit. Isn’t that how the bonfire ends? The time we haven’t met.

Earlier this year, I said in my Masters preview that Scotty Scheffler was “the highlight of the month that didn’t have a chance to win.” I would lose my degree in either profession and be cast aside, but here I am – the absolutely shocking state of journalism in this country. Now as punishment I chose him to win back-to-back big tournaments. Not in that world. 1 and played well in South Hills in the past. I was expecting Sunday to be super exciting with Spit, McIlroy, Cam Smith and John Ram they all had a chance to win but Scheffler won.
Enjoy the competition. I hope you don’t.
