Wales striker Gareth Bale has announced his departure from Real Madrid following the expiration of his contract.

In a message on the club’s official website, Bale said: “I am writing this letter to thank all my teammates, past and present, coaches, dressing room staff and fans who have supported me. I arrived here 9 years ago when I was a young man and wanted my dream to play for Real Madrid.

“Thank you for being a part of the history of this club and for what we achieved when I was a Real Madrid player. It was a great experience and I will never forget it. I also want to thank President Florentino Perez, José Angel Sanchez. and the board of directors for giving me the opportunity to play for this club.”

“Together we were able to create some moments that will forever remain in the history of this club and football. It was an honor, thank you Hala Madrid.”

Bale later posted a video on his Twitter account saying goodbye to the Royal Club, showing the most outstanding stations with the 15-time European champion.
