Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matitsyn said the Russian authorities would do everything necessary to protect athletes from discrimination and politicking.
It came at a press conference at the “Spartakiad” Summer Olympics for Russian students in the Russian city of Ufa.
“The conditions for the development of Russian sports are not easy, they are under international pressure and under sanctions,” Matitsyn said.
“We do everything necessary to study and understand the resources of Russian sport, to realize new ways of conducting competitions, especially for Russian athletes, and we are open to the participation of foreigners. athletes from friendly countries, ”he added.
Responding to a question about the development of Russia’s sports under sanctions, Matisin said: “Russia is a country with enormous resources, self-sufficient and independent political influences. We will do everything necessary to protect Russian sports from politics and discrimination. ” .
Matitsyn noted that without Russia, international sport would not have been fully developed: “The whole world is watching us, and the development of international sport, which would not be successful without Russia, depends on our behavior and decisions. ”
The final competitions of the Summer Olympics for Russian Students will be held from May 25 to September 11 in 22 regions of Russia.
The Olympic Games include competitions in 47 sports, and approximately 14.6 thousand athletes, coaches and specialists are scheduled to participate in the final competitions.
