Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku circuit, which was the eighth round of the 2022 season. Verstappen started in third place but managed to move up to second after Ferrari driver Charles stopped Leclerc and later managed to overtake his teammate Sergio Perez, come out on top and stay on it until the end. For his part, Pérez finished second and in third was Mercedes’ George Russell, who had no chance of advancing further due to the large speed difference between Red Bull and Mercedes.
For its part, Scuderia suffered another disastrous race as its driver Carlos Sainz retired early in the race with a brake problem, with Charles Leclerc joining shortly after suffering engine failure after leading in the race.
Alfa Romeo driver Guanyu Zhou and Haas driver Kevin Magnussen later retired with engine problems, and the Red Bull drivers took advantage of entering and changing tires for the second time during the virtual safety car period due to Magnussen’s departure.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton took advantage of a rear wing failure from Alfa Tore driver Yuki Tsunoda to take fifth place, after which he overtook fellow Alfa Torri driver Pierre Gazelle using his new tires to take fourth place.
It is worth noting that this is the fifth victory of Verstappen this season, which expanded his lead in the individual competition.
