This Monday, Russian Daniil Medvedev returned to the top of the ATP rankings at the expense of Serbian Novak Djokovic, who dropped to third place, while German Alexander Zverev was runner-up.
This is the first time since 2003 that neither Djokovic, Rafael Nadal of Spain or Roger Federer of Switzerland are in the top two positions.
Medvedev, 26, topped the world rankings for the first time in his career on Feb. 28, but it only lasted two weeks after poor results in the sessions he participated in.
But Djokovic’s defeat at Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam, following his quarter-final loss at the hands of Nadal later this month, paved the way for Medvedev to return to the top spot.
Medvedev, who lost to unnamed Dutchman Tim van Reethoven in the final of the Dutch Shratochenbosses tournament on Sunday, will not be able to compete in Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam, after Russian and Belarusian players were banned from participating due to The military operation of Russia to Ukraine.
However, the WTA will suspend the distribution of ranking points at Wimbledon in response to the organizers ’unfavorable decision.
