New York Mets pitcher Chris Bassitt said it was “funny” that professional athletes like him are still being tested for the coronavirus.
The pitcher lamented the current testing regimen when speaking to reporters on Thursday after missing the last game after testing positive for the coronavirus.
“It’s funny that we’re still doing it,” Bassitt told reporters.

When asked about the solution to the current problem, Bassitt said it was time to “stop the case.”
“Stop pretending that COVID is worse than most other things,” he said. “I mean without trying to go into details, but I haven’t gotten sick yet. He’s had no symptoms. So sit outside for two weeks or maybe a week for zero symptoms. I do not know.”
Major League Baseball (MLB) ended its active trial in March of this year and is reserved for athletes with symptoms only. Bassitt said he decided to take the test after feeling lazy after playing for Texas on Friday.
“If I can be safe, I will. I’ve tried it myself. That’s positive. So basically I have a choice: tell them to protect my teammates or risk and don’t tell my teammates. I’ve had no symptoms. I woke up normally the next day. I’ve had no symptoms since then.” said.
Bassitt quietly admitted that she may no longer be showing her symptoms.
“And now they say we can come out and get tested, so they say we can be positive several times in a month,” Bassitt said. “So we have to miss a couple of times. … I think the answer is I should have said nothing.”
“I shouldn’t say I’m positive,” she added. “And I probably won’t be in my entire career. No options. No reason.”
