Former NFL quarterback Deshazor Everett was found guilty of reckless driving after an accident that killed his girlfriend in 2021.
Everett, who joined the team while still in the Redskins, killed his passenger and 29-year-old girlfriend, Olivia Peters, six seasons before he was involved in an accident in Loudon County, Virginia, in December 2021.
Everett was found guilty of reckless driving after prosecutors dropped the original manslaughter charge on Tuesday, TMZ reported.
The former player is still facing a sentencing hearing in September, so there is no indication of what the final outcome will be. However, a reckless driving charge carries a maximum prison sentence of one year and a maximum fine of $2,500.
Everett surrendered after a manslaughter warrant was issued on February 8, 2022, and was released on bail shortly thereafter.
Commanders cut the player three months after the crash and he is now a free agent, but no team will hold him unless there is some sort of opinion on his legal issues.
