Lebanese national team star Wael Arakdji commented on reaching second place in the FIBA Asian Cup after narrowly losing the 75-73 final against Australia on Sunday.

Arakji, who was named the tournament’s best player, said: “A painful loss, but we are proud of ourselves. We met with the strongest teams in the world. We come from a very small country and play in a small league and have faced great international players.”

He continued: “I enjoyed every minute of this tournament, but in the end we have to congratulate Australia, many of our players have participated in the Asian Championship for the first time and therefore we will have more confidence and more experience in the upcoming dates. “

When asked by a reporter about his future, Arakji confirmed that he will be exploring his future with his agent in the near future.

Arakji jokingly added, “Today is my first engagement anniversary and I think my fiancée will kill me because I’m here to play basketball that day!”
