In the run-up to this Women’s Euro Cup, the World recovered what was the first final of the competition in the distant year 1984. Two halves of 35 and not 45 minutes, a very soaked field that made it almost impossible to play football (and with a deluge that did that “favor” of not stopping), little more than 2,000 people in the stands of a stadium with capacity for 10,000, not even the shadow of a possible television broadcast. Even the ball, the center of everything, was smaller than the one used by men. Almost four decades later, everything has changed. As much or more important than that, everyone understands that this is the European Championship that will promote the projection of this change.
So let’s go back to 1984. After a phase of matches always on modest grounds, with almost no attendance and little or no interest among the 16 teams present, Gothenburg still managed to look good in the first leg of the decision (with television on this case), which surprised even the English players. In the second leg, in Luton, the mentioned scenario showed another reality, intensified with the problem of all athletes have to work on Monday, which made the suspension of the game not a scenario. England also overturned the opening game 1-0 but it was Sweden who celebrated, beating the British team 4-3 on penalties.
