Green Bay police reviewed video of the officer’s capture of Dillon

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Green Bay Police said the interior department is investigating after a social media video showed an officer running back the Packers’ AJ Dillon during Saturday’s football game at Lambo Stadium Field.

The video was posted on social networks Dillon is shown greeting fans in the stands during an exhibition match between FC Bayern Munich and FC Manchester City. Dillon was seen jumping into the crowd on the edge of the Lambo, and an officer was seen in the video grabbing him by the collar from behind and pushing him away.

After booing from the fans and Dillon making a statement, the official backed off and allowed Dillon to appear in the stands. When the video started to attract attention on social media, Dillon tweeted from his own account about what happened.

“There is a clear misunderstanding between the officer and Mr. Smith. Dillon,” Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis said Monday. “The Green Bay Police Department is grateful to Mr. Dillon for his vision and words of encouragement. Professional Standards Unit of the Green Bay Police Department/ The Internal Affairs Unit has launched an investigation into this incident.”

Davis’ statement did not specify what was officially shown in the video.

Dillon made the announcement on social media. He said that during Saturday’s football game, which was delayed in the rain, some security personnel helped him down the field to perform a Lambo jump to cheer the crowd.

“I think (the officer) missed when they told me to get off,” Dillon said.

in the next tweet Dillon described the incident as “just a misunderstanding between the parties”.

“@GBPolice are amazing people and I’m glad they helped us keep us safe with our games,” Dillon said. “With all these people standing there in the pouring rain, it’s hard to know what happened to just one of them. Everything is going well.”

When asked about the incident Monday following the Packers’ annual shareholder meeting, team chief/CEO Mark Murphy described the incident as “a very unfortunate event that has happened”.
