Young British driver George Russell won the first pole of his career in a Mercedes car by winning official tests against Ferrari at the Hungarian Grand Prix beating Spanish youth Carlos Sainz in the Scuderia with his teammate Charles Leclerc finishing third and Dutch World Championship champion Max Verstappen was pleased with the Red Bull car in tenth after his engine problems, while teammate Pérez finished 11th after bad luck. Over one lap, the duo would form a surprising result as it would be an opportunity for Ferrari to get closer.
“The car during qualifying in Hungary was really cool,” said Max Verstappen.
Verstappen added: “Starting from 10th place? Yes, things will get a little more complicated. But I think we have a very strong car in a racing simulation… and I’m happy to be on a track that doesn’t suit us.”
