Five, plus five, another five. When France Football announced the first 15 nominees for the 2022 Ballon d’Or, one of the names that has remained almost captive for more than a decade and a half was already there: Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite Manchester United’s poor season, the striker still deserved that initial distinction of breaking into the top 30 players of the year list. Five, plus five, another five. And at the end of all appointments, came a big surprise: Lionel Messi, the Argentine who won his seventh career Ballon d’Or last season, ahead of Robert Lewandowski, isn’t even in the top 30.
As usual, there are more portuguese on the list which was released this Friday by the French publication. In this case, and compared to the last edition, the nominees Rúben Dias and Bruno Fernandes leave, Bernardo Silva returns and João Cancelo and Rafael Leão make their debut.
