The Association of Olympic Athletes of Portugal and the High Performance Center of Pocinho signed this Thursday, in the municipality of Foz Côa, a protocol for the use of this high competition equipment, with a view to sports promotion.
“This agreement of wills establishes the axes of cooperation between both entities, which enhances the added value that Olympic athletes represent for sports development”, explained the president of the Association of Olympic Athletes of Portugal (AAOP).
According to Luís Alves Monteiro, there are in Portugal about 800 Olympic athletes and only about 12% “are in the Olympic cycle”.
“This protocol gives post-career Olympians the benefits of wearing these sports gear, but also the possibility of intervening in terms of improving sports culture“, stressed the leader.
According to this official, another objective of the protocol is to strengthen relations and consider possible joint activities between the High Performance Center (CAR) Remo do Pocinho and the AAOP.
The cooperation covers the promotion of the National Network of High Performance Centers, the promotion of Olympic athletes as sports agents, training, qualification and qualification, and the exchange of technical knowledge, which can take on various natures, typologies and forms. ”, concluded Luis Alves. On the other hand, there will be consultation between the parties, “entities may cooperate in the field of other axes and lines of action that are considered.”
The protocol that will allow, among other things, the access of the members of the AAOP to the facilities of that CAR, in the district of Guarda, “with the definition of the rules of use of the infrastructure and other applicable regulations.”
The members of the AAOP, in the context of their social and sporting responsibility, “under this protocol, undertake to promote, by all possible means, both nationally and internationally, the National Network of CAR’s, in the CAR of Pocinho , in particular, developing activities in favor of the community in areas such as the promotion of citizenship and human rights, education, culture, science, sports, youth associationism, among others”.
“These actions will be outlined, case by case, among the signatories of the protocol signed today between the AAOP and the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, the entity responsible for managing the CAR of Remo do Pocinho”, said Luís Alves Monteiro.
The AAOP is an independent association, which promotes the principles of the Olympic movement and the values of Olympism.
“Among other purposes, promote and spread the values of the Olympic Movementsupporting the development and education of young people through sport, in close collaboration with national sports, health and education authorities, always thinking “for athletes, for athletes for society”, explained Luís Monteiro Alves.
For his part, Pedro Duarte, vice president of the Foz Côa mayor’s office, highlighted the objective of promoting and disseminating the CAR of Pocinho, through Olympic category athletes, both nationally and internationally.
“We believe that Olympic athletes bring significant sporting notoriety to our claim as a destination for high-performance sport,” the mayor stressed.
