French club Paris Saint-Germain have revealed the reason why the club could not sign Barcelona player Ousmane Dembele in transfers last summer.
Dembélé’s contract with the Catalan club expired on 30 June and Barcelona negotiated with the player and agreed to extend his contract, but prior to the agreement, the Frenchman was linked several times with leaving the team in light of major Europeans’ interest in his services, such as Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luis Campos spoke to French Radio Monte Carlo about the reason the player did not join Princes Park, where he said: “I really like Ousmane Dembele, he is a great player, but he plays on the left wing, and we don’t play wide, when you plan to build a team you have to make sure everything fits together like a puzzle.”
He continued: “Our attacking triangle is upside down, Mbappe is in the lead and Messi and Neymar are supporting him.”
He concluded: “Perhaps the club has made some mistakes in the past by signing great players who play in the same positions.”
