Mexican boxer threatens Messi. “I pray to God that I don’t find him”

A trip to Mexico does not seem like the safest plan for Messi. The Argentine player was threatened by the Mexican boxer, Canelo Álvarez, after, in the fighter’s opinion, he had stepped on and kicked a Mexico shirt. “Let Messi ask God not to find him,” Canelo wrote on Twitter in a post that was removed for violating the platform’s rules.

The boxer’s discontent occurs after the Benfica player, Nicolás Otamendi, published a video of the Argentine dressing room on social networks after the 2-0 victory against Mexico at the Lusail Stadium. At a certain point in the recording, a Mexican National Team shirt is seen lying on the ground in front of Messi. By taking off his shoes, the striker seems to be inadvertently touching Mexico’s green jersey. The gesture was interpreted by Canelo Álvarez as a lack of respect for the Mexican nation.

“As I respect Argentina, Argentina has to respect Mexico. I’m not talking about the country, I’m talking about Messi for what he did,” added the boxer on Twitter. Former FC Porto player, miguel layun, also a Mexican, came out in defense of Messi. “Brother, you have always defended Mexico like few others and you have made millions of people proud. I share with you my opinion: the players leave their shirts on the ground because they are sweaty”???????? Layún also explains that Messi “took off his boots and accidentally touched his shirt, that’s all”. Canelo Álvarez did not like the intervention and shared a WhatsApp conversation in which the Mexican international expressed his admiration for the fighter.

Also Sergio Aguero spoke out about the controversy. “Don’t look for trouble. Surely you don’t know anything about football and what happens in a locker room. At the end of the game, the shirts are always on the ground from sweat. Then you see that Messi makes a movement to remove his boot and accidentally hits the shirt ”. Agüero and Messi have a very close relationship, and the Alviceleste captain is godfather to El Kun’s son.

It is not clear, in the video, which Mexico jersey Messi has in front of him, but it is customary, at the end of matches, for the players to exchange jerseys. The Group C match that led to Argentina’s celebrations ended with three points for Alviceleste, allowing the South American team to continue qualifying for the round of 16. The goals of the match were scored by Messi and Enzo Fernández.
