Pedro Pichardo, triple jump European and world champion in 2022, and Auriol Dongmo, indoor shot put world champion, were chosen CNID Sportsmen of the Year, the Association of Sports Journalists announced this Friday.
Pichardo, 29, from Cuba, repeats the distinction he received last year, while Dongmo, 32, from Cameroon, succeeds Patrícia Mamona, following the vote that took place during the last seven days, promoted by the CNID.
The Benfica athlete, who in 2022 also won a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships, surpassed swimmer Diogo Ribeiro and canoeist Fernando Pimenta, second and third athletes with the highest number of votes, respectively.
Dongmo, Sporting athlete, who in 2022 was still runner-up in Europe and finished fifth in the World Cups, clearly won the vote in the women’s sectorahead of the cyclist María Martins, second classified, and the judoka Bárbara Timo, third.
The CNID – Association of Sports Journalists observed that “the best athletes this year were not born in the country and are naturalized”, which they attribute to “A sign of the timessurely”.
