Climate change cannot be prevented without carbon dioxide traps

There are currently 26 units in the world that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. However, the amount of gas it absorbs is equal to 0.1 percent of the amount of emission.

The information office of the National Research Technological University in Moscow shows that climatologists and thermal energy engineers have discovered that global warming can only be slowed down with the help of technology to absorb carbon dioxide from the Earth’s atmosphere.

It is noteworthy that in December 2015, many countries pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions for ten years and adopted the Paris Climate Agreement to combat global warming and keep temperature rises in the range of 1.5-2 degrees Celsius.

Many climate scientists believe that this goal can only be achieved by removing emissions from the atmosphere and reducing them to zero.

According to university scientists, “The reduction in the use of fossil fuels is not enough to prevent the average temperature on Earth from rising by more than 2 ° C in the pre-industrial environment. Global climate change is unstoppable. ”

Russian researchers have compared two ways to combat climate change: a sharp reduction in gas emissions by abandoning the use of fossil fuels and the development of gas stabilization technology. Researchers take into account the geographical location and climate of developed and developing countries.

The results of this comparison showed that carbon dioxide emissions will reach their highest in 10-15 years, that is, they will increase by 15 percent. However, due to the geographical and climatic characteristics of most countries, emissions will be at least six billion tons per year by the end of this century.

Based on this, researchers believe it is necessary to make efforts to develop and use carbon dioxide stabilization technology on a large scale to slow climate change.
