German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said today that the German government would not agree with European Union plans to effectively ban the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles starting in 2035.

In an effort to reduce global warming emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 compared to levels in 1990, the European Commission has proposed a 100 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions from new vehicles by 2035. date.

MEPs supported the proposals this month ahead of talks with EU countries on a final law.

Lindner said at a meeting of the German Confederation of Industry that the proposed ban was a mistake and that the government did not agree with this European legislation.

However, he added, Germany will remain the market leader in electric vehicles.
