The Iranian judiciary announced the arrest of an active spy network in various provinces of the country for the Israeli Mossad, noting that the network intended to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists.
The official added that the Mossad network consists of three agents who were arrested after eight months of security monitoring and follow-up.
The Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency, in turn, quoted Mehdi Shams Ebadi, a judicial official, as saying on Tuesday that Iran would soon bring to justice those who arrested three members of the Israeli intelligence service (Mossad) last April.
Without mentioning the nationality of the detainees, Ebadi confirmed that the three “planned to assassinate our nuclear scientists based on intelligence estimates.”
Last April, the agency announced the arrest of three people, saying they were spies linked to Israeli intelligence in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The announcement of the network’s arrest comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with the suspension of the Vienna talks and the indefinite delay in signing a new nuclear deal.
Manifestations of this escalation were manifested through the repeated bombing of Israeli warplanes on Iranian military targets in Syria, as well as the exposure of the Israeli media to the deployment of the Israeli radar system in the Persian Gulf.
