In essence, the lines of the Polestar 5 were already known, since they derive directly from the prototype presented at the beginning of 2020, under the name Precept. Although it is only scheduled to go on the market in 2024, the Swedish brand, owned by Volvo and Geely in equal parts, took advantage of the Festival of Speed that is being held this weekend at Goodwood, to show the series version of its most sporty and powerful.
After the Polestar 2, the sedan that is already on the market, and the Polestar 3 and 4, two SUVs scheduled for 2022 and 2023, respectively, the Nordic manufacturer that produces its models in China will point its guns at drivers looking for a sedan at the same time, spacious and sporty, that is, it competes with the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S.
Polestar is already in Portugal and sales of the 2 start on May 24
To reveal the general forms of its creation, which will begin to reach customers within two years, Polestar opted for a visit to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the most powerful vehicles fall like soup in honey. With four doors, five seats and a generous boot, the Polestar 5 appears to be around five meters long and has a wheelbase of around three meters, allowing it to offer plenty of room for a large-capacity battery.
Three new Polestar arrive: 3, 4 and 5 will be 100% electric
Unlike the Polestar 2 saloon, the 5 will enjoy the benefits of a dedicated platform, ideal for better exploring interior space and reducing weight. The top-of-the-range GT sedan features an aluminum chassis, combining pressed sheet metal with extruded profiles of the same material, for greater rigidity.
The manufacturer did not provide much information about the characteristics of the 5, but everything indicates that the battery should have a capacity of 103 kWh, being able to work at 400V or 800V, to facilitate fast charging. It mounts two engines, one per axle, to guarantee total traction and must have an accumulated power of 884 CV, with a two-speed transmission, which places it above the most powerful of the Porsche Taycan, the Turbo S, but for under. the most powerful of the Tesla Model S, the Plaid.
