DS 7 is renewed. Lose the cross back, gain power

ds, the brand premium from the Stellantis universe, updates its top-of-the-range SUV. Unveiled in 2017, the DS 7 Crossback gets the typical midlife update, with changes that extend beyond simple cosmetic tweaks. To start, change your name or, better, simplify the naming: Removes Crossback and becomes DS 7 only.

On the outside, the main changes introduced are concentrated in the front, with the DS 7 due to hit Portuguese showrooms in the fall (orders open this summer) easily differing from the model still in showrooms. This is because the front is completely new, highlighting the Larger grille like DS Wings. The front bumper has also been redesigned but, finally, what is going to strike the most when looking at the whole from the front is the light signature of the French SUV, which takes on a more daring personality with the five LED strips, at the top, which are in charge of the daytime running lights, the strip at each end being the only one in which the LEDs produce a continuous effect. The remaining vertical lighting elements give the illusion of light spreading through the bodywork, in a mix of dynamism and depth. Composed of a total of 33 LEDs, the so-called DS Light Veil may be the novelty that stands out the most, but they are not the only ones. As for the light, we also highlight the new optical groups at the front, now with Pixel LED Vision 3.0 technology, synonymous with optimizing the light beam, according to speed and trajectory (angle of rotation).

Behind, the changes are less noticeable. Still, there is no way not to notice that the Crossback inscription has disappeared, giving way to the brandwith the name “DS Automobiles” connecting the rear lights, also with a new design, slimmer and more elegant.

As for the interior, this update basically introduces new upholstery and linings, whose quality and care in the smallest details must be up to the standard. know to do that DS promotes so much. But once on board, the The most substantial change concerns the infotainment system and with the instrument panel, both 12 inches. The instrumentation has a renewed graphic, while the central screen has been redesigned and, depending on the brand, offers more functions and in a more intuitive way, connecting to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay without the need for cables.

Finally, in the range of engines, the French SUV will continue to offer the 130 BlueHDi. But the bet is clearly directed at the plug-in hybrid mechanics (PHEV), which comes in versions of 225, 300 and 360 hp. The novelty lies precisely in this last, which we already know from the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered. All three PHEVs use an eight-speed automatic gearbox and mount a battery with a little more capacity, from the previous 13.2 kWh to 14.4 kWh. The accumulator is rechargeable up to a maximum of 7.4 kW and allows the revamped DS 7 to homologate a 65 km electric range, according to the European standard for measuring consumption and emissions WLTP. The less powerful PHEV is the only one with front-wheel drive, while the 300 and 360 hp versions offer all-wheel drive. Depending on the brand, the most powerful DS 7 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and features wider tracks (24mm at the front and 10mm at the rear) and a 15mm lowered frame. Up front, the brakes feature 380mm diameter discs and DS Performance-specific calipers.
