The French president, Emmanuel Macron, announced this Wednesday in Lisbon that France will host a new United Nations conference on the oceans in 2025organized jointly with Costa Rica.
“Let’s use this momentum to help us move forward collectively”Macron declared, referring to the work of the II Conference on the Oceans that takes place until Friday in Lisbon, in his speech this Wednesday at the plenary session, chaired by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
“What we started here, the importance of this conference, is to see what has been done recently, but also to set what the agenda will be in the near future and I want to say that our commitment is total, comprehensive and collective,” said the head of French state.
By protecting the oceans and marine biodiversity “we protect the environment”, Macron stressed, to maintain that “despite many geopolitical difficulties and the war (in Ukraine)” Members of the United Nations have “Too much to do in this field and they can not deviate from the objective”.
