Google’s failed content moderation process for YouTube has begun marking horror videos as “for kids,” making it impossible for creators to set a video rating of 18 or higher. A horror video labeled as child-friendly is a fake government broadcast urging viewers to kill their families after the successful invasion of America.

The YouTuber checked his account over the weekend and found that its non-child content was determined by YouTube’s AI moderators and marked as child-directed.

“For Kids” means that content can be added to the “YouTube Kids” app designed for kids, providing “safe” YouTube videos for young users. The phrase “kids” means that videos must comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires comments on videos to be disabled.
Straub’s Local58TV series consists of nine horror videos popular enough to have their own Wikipedia page. The channel calls itself “475 MHz ANALOG HORROR. Disruptive Short Films/VHS Aesthetics in Found Images, Chris Straub. ”
The videos are purely fictional, but one of the most popular videos, “The Contingency,” was designed to look like a public service announcement for the US Department of Honor. Set video to ugly version star banner and states that America was defeated in the war and forced to surrender. The fake US Department informs and instructs viewers that they can “take America” by killing their families before the invaders arrive.
The video is clearly not aimed at children and is aimed at avid horror fans, so Straub tagged the video as 18+. YouTube’s content moderation process automatically flags a video titled “Made for Kids”, but the video description immediately says “Not For Kids” and the system ignores it. . The video was also originally rated 18+ by Straub.

This isn’t the first time the YouTube Kids app has been the center of controversy. Hess recorded some of the content she discovered by recording the screen and posting it on her own blog, PediMom.com. In a video titled “School of Monsters: SLENDERMAN HORROR GAME,” a character describes a school shoot. This video was posted on the TellBite channel, which has over 167,000 subscribers.
Another clip from Toasty Qween’s YouTube channel shows a female character attempting to commit suicide with a knife before her father intervenes; The video is set to the song “Don’t Worry Boy”. Another video is a parody of the popular adult video game Doki Doki Literature Club; The title of the parody video is “Docki! ports! Clouds Clouds New Ending !!! ” and talking about suicide and “Why won’t the world let me die?” It shows a character that says.
