The war has reached space. On Monday, Russian cosmonauts posted a photo on Telegram showing themselves on a space station with the flags of the self-proclaimed republics of Lugansk and Donetsk, two territories currently at the center of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
NASA did not like it and issued a statement on Thursday in which it “strongly condemns” the use of the International Space Station “for political purposes”, in this case the war in Ukraine and the consequent support for the independence of two territories.
“It is fundamentally inconsistent with the main function of the station”says NASA, noting that countries should focus on “developing technology for peaceful purposes” and not adopt a warmongering stance.

Russian cosmonauts celebrated the conquest of Lysychansk, the last bastion of the Ukrainian resistance in the Lugansk region. The self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, which make up the Donbass region, are only recognized internationally by Russia and Syria.
