Much of France is being affected by a prolonged drought and successive heat waves, which have already forced water consumption to be restricted in several regions of the country.
A total of 86 of the 95 departments of the French metropolitan regions are subject this weekend to some type of alert on the use of water, according to the country’s surveillance network, which depends on the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the EFE agency points out. . .
According to official data, the most serious alert level, that of the crisis, was declared in 34 departments, mainly in the west, center and southeast of the country, while another 37 are at the second reinforced alert level.
In all these departments there is some type of restriction on domestic, urban, agricultural or industrial consumption and some cities in the interior must be supplied by tanker trucks for the consumption of the population.
France is suffering today and this Monday a new heat wave, with its epicenter in the southeast of the country, extreme temperatures that have been repeated and aggravated the situation of lack of rain in recent weeks.
The first fortnight of July was the driest period in the country, according to the Meteo France agency, a situation that has also contributed to several forest fires of considerable magnitude that have occurred this month.
