Joe Biden is considering a climate emergency announcement, says John Kerry

John Kerry, the US Presidential Climate Envoy, says that Joe Biden, the US president, is considering a climate emergency announcement. In statements to the BBC, Kerry reinforced that this climate emergency declaration would give the US ruler additional powers redouble efforts on the issue of renewable energy.

However, admits John Kerry, the idea will not be allowed in the United States Congress. The special envoy for the climate also assured during this interview that Joe Biden will be prepared to “use all available tools” to address the issue of climate change.

This week, Joe Biden announced a $2.3 billion plan to combat climate change and help build infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather and natural disasters.

Several points in the United States have registered high temperatures in recent days, which has led the authorities of states such as Pennsylvania, Delaware or New Jersey to declare heat alert situations. According to a bulletin released this Sunday by the National Weather Service, 85 million Americans are in places with excessive temperature warnings.

The same bulletin indicates that thermometers may exceed 43 degrees earlier this week, as high temperatures are expected to remain at least until Tuesday.

The state of California, known for high temperatures and drought, is currently being hit by wildfires. Mariposa County, California is already under a state of emergency due to the fires. More than 6,000 people have already been evacuated from the region, after the fires have already destroyed ten houses.
