Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service announced its decision to impose a heavy fine on Google, accusing it of violating the country’s Internet-related laws.
“It has decided to fine Google two billion rubles for the policies of YouTube platforms that are inconsistent with antitrust laws regarding the Internet in Russia,” the official said in a statement.
The official launched an investigation into YouTube’s platforms and found that these platforms “violated Internet monopoly laws and banned or blocked certain accounts or platforms that, without prior notice, -post videos on their websites, creating an uncompetitive environment.”
“As a result of its previous investigations, it has decided to fine Google two billion rubles (approximately $34.8 million), and Google must pay these fines within two months from the date of issuance of the fine,” said the officer.
The Magistrate of Moscow’s Tagansky district fined Google more than 21 billion rubles this month, the second such fine for inconsistency in removing prohibited information.
