Exhibition of photographer Steve McCurry on September 23 in Lisbon

Starting on September 23, the Cordoaria Nacional, in Lisbon, will host an exhibition with the “most emblematic images” captured by the American photographer Steve McCurry, including the portrait of an Afghan girl on the cover of National Geographic magazine.

According to the promoter of the exhibition, in a statement, “ICONOS” presents more than a hundred photographs “large format” that includes “the most iconic images of McCurry, such as the mythical portrait he made of the Afghan girl Sharbat Gula, in 1984and that it was the cover of National Geographic magazine in 1985″.

In the exhibition, curated by the Italian Biba Giacchetti, co-founder of the Sudest57 agency, “the public will travel through the photographic universe of Steve McCurry, along a path that will take them from Afghanistan to India, from Southeast Asia to Africa, from Cuba to United States or Brazil Italy: a fascinating repertoire of images in which the human element is always the protagonist”.

In addition to photographs, “ICONOS” includes videos “about the photographer’s travels, his adventures and his professionthat reveal some of the keys to his life, explain how the images were taken and who the people portrayed are”.

Steve McCurry was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1950. In the same city, he studied film at Pennsylvania State University, before starting work at a local newspaper.

According to the information available in place of Sudest57, who represents the photographer, after several years of work under free throwSteve McCurry made the first of many trips to India. Since then, he has captured “stunning pictures” on six continents. “His work of his covers conflicts, cultures in danger of extinction, ancestral traditions and contemporary culture, always emphasizing the human element,” reads the place.

Throughout his career he was distinguished with several awards, including four world press photoand it was ordered Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.

“ICONS” will be patent in Cordoaria Nacional between September 23 and January 2023, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.. Tickets start at six euros, with free admission for children up to 3 years old.
