Artemis, the first step to reconquer the Moon

This Monday a new chapter in space exploration will begin to be written: the Artemis 1 mission, the first step in an ambitious program developed by the US space agency, in partnership with private companies and the European Space Agency (ESA), to take humanity back to the moonIt will be launched aboard a new American rocket.

But Nuno Chabert Duarte, a space exploration specialist and founder of the science site Bit2Geek, explained to the Observer that the ultimate goal is even more complex than that: it is “the beginning of the colonization of space”, a plan that will “revolutionize mentalities”.

The launch of the Artemis 1 mission is scheduled for next Monday, August 29, during a window of opportunity that opens at 13:33 and closes at 15:33 in Lisbon, at Launch Complex 39B at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. This was the launch point for some Apollo missions and all space shuttle missions between 1986 and 2006, including Challenger, which exploded shortly after liftoff in what was the first fatal accident of an American spacecraft at altitude.
