Vivek Sharma, Vice President of Horizon, Facebook’s digital metaverse product, is reportedly leaving the company at a crucial moment as it tries to make the digital world of Masters of the Universe Zuckerberg a reality.
CNBC reported that Facebook (now known as Meta) has lost Vivek Sharma, Horizon’s vice president of virtual reality software. Sharma has held various high-profile roles at Facebook, the marketplace and in games for six years, most recently playing a key role in the metadata warehouse business.

As Horizon Vice President, Sharma has led several VR projects, including the social media service Horizon Worlds, which aims to enable users to interact and play in virtual worlds. Virtual reality collaboration app Horizon Workrooms and live event app Horizon Venues are also major projects Sharma has curated.
A Facebook spokesperson said in a statement: “Through his leadership, the Horizon product team has built a strong team with an ambitious vision and this is just the beginning.” Meta continues to be a source of nurturing great leaders, and we’re excited to see what Vivek accomplishes in the next installment.”
According to a spokesperson, the Horizon team will now report directly to Facebook’s Vice President of Metaverse, Vishal Shah. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke at a keynote address recently. The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast that Facebook plans to introduce a new VR headset in October, the month the company hosts its Connect VR conference.

Business Insider reports that Mark Zuckerberg has become increasingly obsessed with the idea of the digital metaverse, to the point where many of his employees are sick and disgusted with the concept. According to a former executive-level employee who recently left the company, “That’s all Mark wanted to talk about.”
The same former employee said the company does “damn messaging” in the metaverse and “creates tailor-made teams for the metaverse.” Allegedly, a team will contact everyone else in the company and let them know it’s a “metaverse game”.
Some employees were reportedly embarrassed about the transition to Metaverse technology. A current employee told Business Insider: “Obviously, it promotes disorder and chaos. It’s like people don’t know what to do and what not to do because there is still no coherent strategy.”
