Russian air defense shot down US anti-radar missiles

The official spokesman of the Russian army, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that the Russian air defense shot down 4 anti-radar missiles in the Kherson region.

These are missiles that the US recently delivered to the Ukrainian army.

It is noteworthy that the AARGM Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile was designed in the United States at the request of the Italian Army in the 1980s.

Among the features of this missile is a composite warhead, which can act as a normal missile and a radar missile in the millimeter wave range. The latter’s operating system allows the missile to detect radar antennas even when unplugged.

The missile has a continuity guidance system as the main system and a guidance system based on space navigation. These two systems help direct it to an area where enemy radars are expected to be deployed, and then the missile initiates an independent search for radars to destroy.

In 2016, work began in the United States on the modernization of the radar missile and the design of the AARGM-ER long-range missile, equipped with a jet accelerator, which greatly increases the launch range.

The missile has a length of 4.17 meters, a diameter of 0.25 meters, a wingspan of 1.13 meters, a weight of 361 kg, a warhead weight of 66 kg, a maximum operational range of 150 km, and a minimum operating range of 25. . km.
